Secondary Curriculum
Uganda’s Lower Secondary Curriculum, introduced in 2020, is based on a competency-based approach that places the learner at the center of education. It focuses on developing practical skills, values, and the ability to apply knowledge in real-life situations rather than relying on memorization.
The Upper Secondary Curriculum (Senior 5–Senior 6) builds on the competencies acquired at O-Level and allows learners to specialize in subject combinations aligned with their academic strengths and career aspirations.
01. Ordinary Level - UCE
Subjects offered include:
- ➤ Compulsory Subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography
- ➤ Optional Subjects: Christian Religious Education, Entrepreneurship, Latin, Agriculture, Kiswahili, ICT
02. Advanced Level - UACE
A-Level, students pursue specialized Arts and Science subject combinations designed to build advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and prepare them for university and professional careers.
- ➤ Arts subject combinations include:MEG (Mathematics, Entrepreneurship/Economics, Geography), HEG (History, Entrepreneurship/Economics, Geography), HED (History, Entrepreneurship/Economics, Divinity), and HDG (History, Divinity, Geography).

Implementing the New Curriculum
At St. Mary’s Ediofe Girls Secondary School, our academic programme is aligned with the national curriculum developed by the National Curriculum Development Centre and assessed by the Uganda National Examinations Board. We implement both the Lower Secondary (O-Level) and Upper Secondary (A-Level) curricula in a structured, learner-centered environment.
